Wall-bounded Turbulence
Turbulent flows are highly dynamic, irregular, and seemingly chaotic, characterized by swirling eddies and coherent structures spanning a wide range of spatiotemporal scales. These complex motions become increasingly rich and fully developed at high Reynolds numbers. Here, we present an instantaneous snapshot of a turbulent channel flow at a friction Reynolds number of 2000, highlighting intricate vortical structures identified using the Q-criterion, a widely used method for vortex visualization. The smaller panels illustrate the evolution of near-wall streaky structures as the Reynolds number increases from 300 to 750 and finally to 2000, revealing a progressive intensification and fragmentation of turbulence.
